Yellowdig
Introduction
For our discussions in the OMSW course, we will be using a tool called Yellowdig. This page is designed to help you get the most out of Yellowdig, a powerful collaboration and engagement platform designed to enhance your learning experience. Whether you're a student, educator, or administrator, this help page will guide you through the various features and functionalities of Yellowdig, ensuring you have a smooth and productive experience.
Getting Started with Yellowdig
Note: Yellowdig access should ONLY occur through specific links INSIDE Blackboard. Do not attempt to access a Yellowdig community outside of a Blackboard link. You will NOT need to create a Yellowdig account. Instead, by clicking the link INSIDE of Blackboard, you will pass through to Yellowdig seamlessly.
From the Content area of a Course, click the Yellowdig Community link to begin.
2. A side panel will appear. Click Launch to join the Yellowdig Community.
2. The Yellowdig application will launch in a new window. If this is your first time launching Yellowdig, you will be provided with an Overview video (<2 mins). We strongly suggest watching the video to truly appreciate what Yellowdig is and how it will work for you as a student in this course.
Using Yellowdig
Yellowdig offers several features to facilitate collaboration and engagement. Here are some key functionalities:
Posting and Interacting
Once you're part of a community, you can start sharing posts, articles, links, and multimedia content.
Click on the Create Post button, write your message, and attach any relevant files or links.
You can like, comment, and reply to posts to engage in discussions with other community members.
Earning and Giving Points
Yellowdig encourages active participation by awarding and tracking points.
Earn points by making valuable contributions, receiving likes and comments, and engaging in meaningful discussions.
Give points to others for their helpful or insightful contributions to the community.
Searching and Filtering
Find specific posts or information within a community using the search bar located at the top of the page.
Apply filters to refine your search results based on various criteria such as post type, author, or date.
Notifications and Email Preferences
Stay informed about community activities through notifications and emails.
Customize your notification settings to receive alerts about important updates, comments, likes, and more.
Note: Different actions and responses to posted content in Yellowdig can earn Yellowdig points for each student. The community is setup with a long-term point goal, typically around 15,000. Yellowdig points will usually not match what is shown in the Blackboard course gradebook. Yellowdig points are converted to a percentage, which is sent to Blackboard about once per hour. If you are using the Yellowdig point system with weekly periods the grade is recalculated at the start of each period and students will appear to "lose" points on the Yellowdig assignment. Please ignore the Yellowdig points grade in Blackboard and instead defer to the Yellowdig community to view your points.
