Introduction

SafeAssign compares submitted assignments against a set of academic papers to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works. SafeAssign originality reports provide detailed information about the matches found between a student's submitted paper and existing sources.

Using SafeAssign

You can use SafeAssign plagiarism checking for any of your assignments.

  1. On the Create Assignment page, expand Submission Details.

  2. Select Check submissions for plagiarism using SafeAssign.

  3. Optionally, select one or both options:

    • Allow students to view the SafeAssign Originality Reports on their submissions.

    • Exclude all student submissions for this assignment from the Institutional or Global Reference Databases.

  4. Complete the Create Assignment page.

  5. Select Submit.

When you create an assignment using SafeAssign, a grade column is automatically created in the Grade Center. When the assignment is ready for grading, the Needs Grading icon appears in the Grade Center cell. Grade assignments from the Grade Center or access them from the Needs Grading page.

FAQ

How do I release an older version of a student's paper via SafeAssign?

Follow these steps:

  1. In the left column of your course, click on: Control Panel, expand Course Tools and click on SafeAssign.

  2. To view a given student’s SA Report, click on the green check mark icon under SA Report for the student in question.

  3. Check the source(s) to be filtered under the Suspected Sources section.

  4. With the desired source(s) checked, click on the link entitled Re-process the paper without the selected sources.


SafeAssign shows an Originality Score, but the Originality Report does not appear, why?

SafeAssign will not show an Originality Report if Anonymous Grading has been turned on for the assignment. You will have to turn off anonymous grading in order to see the originality report.

How can a student manually submit an assignment through SafeAssign?

  1. Access the assignment.

  2. On the Upload Assignment page, review the instructions, due date, points possible, and download any files provided by your instructor.

  3. A message appears to let you know that your submission will be processed by SafeAssign.

  4. Select Write Submission to expand the area where you can type your submission.

  5. Select Browse My Computer to upload a file from your computer.
